Cyril Constant Julian Wampach

Cyril Constant Julian Wampach

Cyril joined the army as a driver (910270) 1070 Bty, 222nd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery in August 1914.  He served and died in Mesopotamia, on 29th January 1918 aged 22.  He is buried in Amara War Cemetery.  His is also commemorated on Folkestone War Memorial, and Dover College (Dover) War Memorial.

Cyril Constant Julian Wampach was born (December) 1895 in the Elham District to Julie and Charles Constant Wampach, a hotel keeper Wampach’s Hotel, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone.  His father was born in Luxembourg and his mother in Germany.  Cyril had one brother Alphonse Christian Wampach.  The 1911 census showed Cyril lived at 14 Folkestone Road, Dover, as a boarder and student, whilst studying at Dover College.
